i'd just like to add that i too had the hal problem. the "A Disk Read Error Has Occurred ....." problem for me appears to definitely be file corruption. Used RUFUS to create MBR for UEFI ( windows 8.1 32b) after that came problems with keyboard and mousepad. Changing the BIOS drive settings from auto to user-specified, ensuring that LBA is selected may fix it. however i can boot into my ubuntu usb. maybe the cable or maybe the hdd itself!its worth to try..well thanks for the help!really helped me alot..really!

The only way to get it to work is to close the PeToUSB window but as the tutorial states, this window must be left open. I just thought about this.. This guide will tell you how to acquire Windows 7, prepare a flash drive to install Windows 7, and to acquire the necessary drivers after installation is finished. Even using an xp pro iso mounted on a virtual drive this worked first time.
