I also tried VB 4.2.2 for two weeks, and did not get any problem with this version. It might take upto 10 tries until host BSOD occurs. I installed VirtualBox back, and crashes returned. Reinstalling does not help. I guess it's the OpenGL support that doesn't work. Virtualbox Blue Screen Windows 7 Guest: Ubuntu 10.10.

Without windows Aero (one colour background only) VirtualBox seems to work fine with all the memory. Sorry it took so long… Now I updated the Realtek drivers to the latest version and installed VB 4.2.18. Virtualbox Extension Pack i was looking at the task manager when this happened and although i'm not 100% sure, but it seemed to me VBoxSVC.exe was terminated while VBoxHeadless.exe was still running.
