If i run the slmgr.vbs /ato after I log in - it activates with no issues. It was at the black screen day in & day out with the curser visible, that's what made me look up to restore it back…. Did I miss something wrong ??? ie. check over here

I recently had a hard drive fail. Most MSDN stuff has a grace period of 60 days, which is just 1 week away now. I've used this method for desktops and hard drives, as well as Windows that was originally OEM installed.
